Skin cancer has been on the rise in recent years as the main cause for its occurrence is exposure to solar radiation. There are three main types: Malignant Melanoma , Basal Cell Carcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma.
In our clinic, we can diagnose and treat all forms of skin cancer aiming at curing you completely.
Basal cell carcinoma is the most common form of non-melanocyte skin cancer, also known as comedo ulcer. It spreads only locally and does not give distant or lymph node metastases. However, if left untreated it can cause serious problems in the long run. The diagnosis of this skin lesion is made with the help of a biopsy (punch biopsy) followed by surgical resection. The procedure usually involves the performance of a surgical resection of the lesion and immediate closure of the wound, however, in some cases a more complex surgery might be required (skin flap or skin graft for the restoration).
Most types of Basal Cell Carcinoma are usually painless and can vary in appearance, from a flat scaly red mark to a pearly-textured crown around a central crater.
This is the second most common form of Non-Melanocyte Skin Cancer and unlike Basal Cell Carcinoma, it can metastasize throughout the body if not treated immediately. Squamous cell carcinoma can vary greatly in appearance, but usually appears as scaly or as an ulcerated area of skin or sometimes as a mass with a red inflammatory base. The diagnosis of the skin lesion is made following a thorough clinical examination and a biopsy (punch biopsy) and the surgical resection of the lesion follows. We recommend the surgical treatment of Squamous cell carcinoma as soon as possible.
Melanoma is a skin melanocyte cancer and, if treated early, the prognosis for the patient can be quite good. Malignant Melanoma often has irregular borders, is varied in color and may cause itching and bleeding and may grow in size. It is one of the most aggressive forms of skin cancer, and thus it needs immediate and thorough surgical treatment by an experienced plastic surgeon.
