Eyelid Surgery can be part of a general face lift or a separate operation. It aims to fix the relaxation of the upper and lower eyelids and remove the “bags”.
There is no “suitable age” for this operation, as the “bags” may appear at younger ages. The upper eyelid incision is made within the eyelid crease and the lower eyelid incision is made 1-2 mm under the lower eyelids. After a few weeks, those incisions are completely disappeared.
The operation is usually made under local anesthesia with the aid of an anaesthesiologist for sedation. Thus, the operation is bearable (without pain) and the surgeon can check the state of the eyelids, having the patient awake during the operation.
In most cases, the patient can return home a few hours after the operation. After the operation, there are swelling and bruises which recede gradually. The pain is minimum or none. If intense and persistent pain or sudden “swelling” occurs, you must immediately contact your doctor. The stitches are removed on the 5th day and the patient can return to his work after 5-7 days, in the majority of cases.
Avoiding smoking and sun exposure is necessary for 1-2 weeks.
